Showcase of the University
The Botanical Gardens of the University of Bonn are a location for research and teaching. They are a place for meetings and events. But they are also a wonderful place for local recreation. With over 150,000 visitors a year, they are the university's largest showcase.
The combination of research and information in our botanical gardens makes scientific work vivid and ecological relationships visible. We enjoy the beauty of the gardens and at the same time recognize the importance of plant diversity. However, we also see the threats to our natural environment.
Through habitat destruction and direct extinction, species are disappearing today faster than their research is progressing. We rightly speak of a global biodiversity crisis.
Botanical gardens work intensively in species protection. They have been implementing local and international conservation projects for years. A successful project in Bonn: the grey hair-grass was reintroduced to the Tannenbuscher Düne.
