Plant Collections
In addition to large research collections of titan arums, carnivorous plants, impatiens and flower nettles, remarkable special collections of Proteaceae and Vellociaceae, geophytes from Europe and Anatolia, as well as useful plants from all over the world have been brought together at Bonn University Botanic Gardens.
Titan arum and relatives
Amorphophallus species are very different in size and appearance. What they all have in common is the smell to attract pollinators.
Carnivorous plants
The carnivores belong to the most fascinating plant groups due to their sophisticated prey-catching techniques .
Geophytes
Geophytes are bulbous, tuberous or rhizomatous plants. In particular spring geophytes, such as the snowdrop, are very popular.
Useful plants of the world
The collection of the world's useful plants - including citrus species - is now one of the largest of its kind in Germany.
Local crop varieties
Think globally, act locally: our own commitment. Crops have always played a major role in this subject.
Impatiens
With over 1000 known species and still many undiscovered species, Impatiens is one of the most species-rich genera.
Silver tree family
Proteaceae species show a great variety of different forms. Linné therefore named them after Proteus, the Greek sea-god, who constantly changed his shape.
Velloziaceae
Vellozias are widespread in the tropics and subtropics, with a particularly large number of species in South America. They can cope with extreme environmental conditions.
Loasaceae
The "Flowering nettles" are at home in the South American Andes. They are often restricted to small, often moist and nutrient-rich habitat niches.
