Melb Garden
The outdoor area of the Botanic Gardens in the Melb Valley covers a surface of 1.8 hectares. Once a year - usually in spring - the collections of Asian woody plants, hardy camellias and Georgian plants are also open to the public.
Georgia and China
Towards the end of the Second World War, the city of Bonn donated an idyllically located area in the Melb Valley to the university for experimental facilities. Especially plants from Georgia and China found a new home here.
Plant species from Georgia could be directly collected during numerous excursions. An extensive Georgia section was created with the various wild fruit trees found as understory in the loose Georgian forests: pears (Pyrus communis var. caucasica as well as Pyrus eleagnifolia) and cherry plums (Prunus cerasifera var. divaricata).
In the China forest you can find the dawn redwoods (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) from the Chinese provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan. Some of them are already older than 50 years.
